I remember when Phil....

I changed my initial title for this blog...at first it was "Remembering Phil".....It's funny, well more strange I suppose cause when I typed the words "Remembering Phil..." it means that he's gone...and I still don't think I've quite realised that yet.

While we are finite humans when people are alive the potential to create memories and have pictures taken seems infinite.  But as soon as someone dies, that number doesn't grow anymore... in fact it feels like it shrinks as you forget things....

So I thought we would start a section on this blog called I remember when Phil, where we (that's you included), can post memories of him.....  just add a comment with your memory to the bottom of this post.  Feel free to write more than one....or to come back randomly and add a new one you remember!
If you have trouble posting comments, email them to phillingyouin@gmail.com and I'll put them up.

They don't need to be long....

Here are two that popped into my head:

-I remember when Phil was little and he couldn't say my name properly (Kristen is particularly difficult), he called me Kissn.

-I remember when Phil had an accident involving putting a spoon almost right through his tongue....which is why he called lollies wowwies for most of his primary school years.

  2. I have so many memories... I remember when Mel and I used to make Phil and Claire say they loved each other. They just repeaed whatever we told them to say :) I still can't get my head around the fact that my little (or not so little) cousin is gone... Hope to see more memories up here :)

  4. i will always remember a boy who had some exciting story to tell about fishing or rockets or a cooking adventure
and i remember reading to him and jenny when they were still little before they would go to sleep, and how phil always would come and wake us up in the morning if we ever had a sleepover and how he was Nana's favourite because of his gentle soul and how he would walk with her around our garden talking about all the plants

  5. I remember (in about 2002) when Phil could run without any troubles and we spent the afternoons playing tag and running around in the garden at his house.

I also remember one time when I brought my xbox over to play a game with Phil and the game wouldn't work on multiplayer. But Phil still wanted to see it so he just let me play it all afternoon. He just sat there and watched. It sounds kind of selfish of me but Phil was just really happy to sit there and chat about the game and all kinds of other things. I'll miss that a lot.

I can't wait to run around and play games with him again in heaven one day.

  6. I remember when, Phil and I were hanging out at lunchtime in middle school, and he had his prosthesis with him (obviously.. hehe) and anyway, we thought it would be funny to creep out some of the grade 5 girls... so he took off his fake leg and started waving his foot/joint around at them, one of them got sooo creeped out and we were loving it.. then she ran and got newly appointed Middle School Captain Rachel to come and tell us off... haha! she did. Just made it so much funnier...

    I'll never forget that,

  8. The only time I ever met Phil was at your twenty-first, Kris! I remember he had just gotten his prosthesis...and he was playing footy or cricket or something in the backyard.

  9. I can remember Phil hovering round the kitchen bench when he was younger while your mum made cookies trying every trick he had to cadge some extra cookie dough to sample-and when that didn't work taking it anyway as soon as your mum turned her back-and giving me a wicked conspiratorial grin so I wouldn't tell!

  10. I can remember in grade 5 or 6 just as he started to get the cancer in his leg, we always used to play tiggy because that what everyone used to do when they were little, and no-one wanted to be it, we all hated it, but Phil would always say that he would be it, and sometimes he would find people and let us know that his leg was really sore, but he would keep playing with us.

  11. I remember when you guys came to visit us in NZ, and when we visited you in Australia, me and Phil sitting poking eachother in the arm for ages saying "doink" with each poke, and Aunty Lyn getting annoyed, but trying not to say anything, because if she told Phil off she'd be telling me off to, and I was considerably older than Phil, and should have known better anyway. It was fun.

  12. I remember one time when your mum (Lyn) invited Jared and I for dinner one day when James was in hospital, as I sat talking to your mum whilst she was preparing dinner it was quite commical watching Jared and Phil, Phil thought it would be good to do some sword fighting, but with a bit of a twist, Phil was in the chair with his crutch and Jared was in the chair next to him with his prosthetic leg. They had an absolute ball, with both laughing so hard that you couldn't help laughing at them too.

  13. I'm not sure why, but whenever I think about Phil this memory of playing a game of tennis on your lawn comes up. It didn't work very well as the ball wasn't bouncing much, and I don't think we had a net either, but it was fun, and I still remember it.
I also remember playing tiggy with Phil around the house for ages every time I came and visited.
And I remember him teaching me Weird Al's "The saga continues..." At the time I thought it was original.

  14. I guess I have fairly everyday memories of Phil when I lived with you guys like... feeling a blast of air in my face when I walked in the door from work cause he had shot me with that air gun thing, Phil flicking Melinda and Jenny with the tea towel while we were supposed to be cleaning up after dinner and making people's hair go static with the balloon. He always had a good story to tell that would make you smile and laugh, something that happened at school or that he saw on t.v. Being a rather serious personality I found this very refreshing, and appreciated the way this and the general conversation at home would lighten my mood after a difficult day at work.

  15. Haha I remember when he got that air gun thing. He was so excited about it. I guess he would have already been planning things like that.

  16. Not long before Phil went on the holiday to Tassie with some of the family we had them over for dinner, we had great fun talking about what they were going to do and all the things they had on there I spy list 200+ things Jenny and Phil had to find I never got round to asking Phil if they found everything but I hope they did. We also played Trival Persuit that night Phil, Jenny and I were 1 team and the parents made the other 2 teams we had a blast and I must say it was a great feeling to win over the parents as we know how good there general knowledge was but the best thing about that night was the smiles and laughter that came out of Phil he was happy not worried about anything just enjoying the night with everyone. We hoped to do it all again once they got back from Tassie but it didn't happen but that didn't matter cos we all had great fun before they went away. He had great character which will be sadly missed but will keep us all going until we see him again with our Hevenly Father.

  17. another thing i remember about phil is how he and jenny used to chase my sister (lauren) around when she brought up her rhino nina to warragul. I'd be asleep in mel's room and we'd hear thumpthumpthumpthumpthump down the hall in the morning, of them chasing each other at 530 in the morning. i also have a rather abundant store of memories of phil picking on me because i was so short... when he was first diagnosed, i went to visit him in hospital. he jumped out of bed next to me and started laughing. i was confused... until he said 'Im taller than you!!' he was 12... i was 15. since then, all i got from him was abuse and a hug :) i didnt even get a hello usually. it was 'stand over emma and remind her how much taller than her you are' then it was a hug. :) phil was such a lovely person... and its finally starting to sink in, i think. but we'll all see him again :)
